Making my first batch of soap was a little mysterious because I had never witnessed the saponification process of mixing fats/oils with lye, and seeing it turn into soap. It feels like I am back in chemistry lab with my mask and goggles when working with lye. But the amazing thing is, after the saponification is complete (6 weeks), you no longer have fats/oils and lye; it is now soap!
